Becharam Das Dutta 'Krishna and Balarama Depart Vrindavan' Poster
Free shipping on orders over $65
Description
Becharam Das Dutta made this hand-colored lithograph in Calcutta in the mid-19th century, when the city's print presses were turning out devotional images for a growing popular market. It shows a moment from the life of Krishna: summoned to Mathura, he and his brother Balarama leave the cowherd village of Vrindavan, and the villagers who love them try to hold the chariot back. The scene is one of the most emotional episodes in the Krishna story.
