Description
John William Waterhouse painted Diogenes in 1882, before the enchantresses that made his name, and it is now in the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney. Diogenes was the Greek Cynic philosopher said to have lived in a large clay storage jar in the Athenian marketplace and to have told Alexander the Great to step out of his sun. Printed twice around the mug.
