Description
John William Waterhouse signed Fair Rosamund in 1916, and it was shown at the Royal Academy in 1917, after he died that February. It illustrates the legend of Rosamund Clifford, the mistress of Henry II, who in the story is hidden in a maze and found by the jealous Queen Eleanor by following a silk thread. The maze and the murder were added to the story long after the twelfth century.
