Description
Katsushika Hokusai, best known for The Great Wave, made this woodblock print probably in 1807, in the surimono format: small, privately commissioned prints made for poems and greetings. It pairs Oni, the demons of Japanese folklore, with Uzume, the goddess who in Shinto myth coaxed the sun goddess Amaterasu out of hiding with a dance. Surimono were printed in small runs with especially fine materials and techniques. This women's cotton tee carries the print across the front.
