Ogata Kōrin 'Rough Waves' Poster
Free shipping on orders over $65
Description
Ogata Kōrin (1658-1716) was born into a wealthy kimono-merchant family in Kyoto and became one of the great masters of the Rinpa school, known for bold, decorative design on gold leaf. Rough Waves was painted around 1704-9 and follows a century-old Kyoto tradition of stylized waves. Kōrin reduced the sea to rhythm and pattern, a choice that later artists, including Hokusai, would push in a very different direction.
