Description
John William Waterhouse painted Saint Cecilia in 1895, drawing on Tennyson's poem The Palace of Art. Cecilia is the patron saint of music. The painting sold at Christie's in 2000 for about 6.6 million pounds, then a record for a Victorian painting, and helped restore Waterhouse's reputation. Printed twice around the mug.
