Description
Studies for the Libyan Sibyl is a sheet of red chalk drawings by Michelangelo (1475–1564), made around 1510–11 in preparation for the Libyan Sibyl on the Sistine Chapel ceiling. Michelangelo drew from a young male studio assistant, a common workshop practice, before transforming the pose into the monumental seated prophet in fresco. The Metropolitan Museum purchased the sheet in 1924, with the painter John Singer Sargent helping to negotiate the acquisition. This women's cotton tee carries the print on the front.
