Description
In Firdausi's epic Shahnama (Book of Kings), the legendary king Hushang discovers fire when a stone he hurls at a serpent strikes another rock and throws off sparks. He celebrates with the feast of Sada, a festival still marked in Iran today. This page comes from the lavish copy of the Shahnama made for Shah Tahmasp in Safavid Iran around 1525, and the painting is attributed to the court artist Sultan Muhammad.
