Description
The Hōryūkaku, from Hakkenden (Tale of Eight Dogs) is a triptych woodblock print by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797–1861), made in the 1830s. It illustrates a famous rooftop battle from Kyokutei Bakin's epic novel Nansō Satomi Hakkenden, one of the most popular works of Edo-period fiction. Kuniyoshi was celebrated for his dynamic warrior scenes and crowded, theatrical compositions. This women's cotton tee carries the print across the back.
