Description
The Unicorn Rests in a Garden is the last of the seven Unicorn Tapestries, woven in the Southern Netherlands around 1495-1505 in wool, silk and metallic threads. The series follows the hunt for the unicorn and ends with the animal alive and content in a flowering enclosure, a scene read as a symbol of marriage or of resurrection. The set was bought by John D. Rockefeller Jr. and given to the Metropolitan Museum in 1937, and it hangs today at The Cloisters in New York.
