Adam and Eve is an engraving by Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528), dated 1504 and carrying his name on the tablet hanging from the tree. Dürer built the figures on classical ideas of ideal proportion, and Adam recalls the Hellenistic Apollo Belvedere, which had been unearthed in Italy only a few years earlier. Every surface, from snake skin to fur to bark, is rendered with its own pattern of line. The Metropolitan Museum acquired this impression in 1919. This unisex hoodie carries the print on the front.
