Albrecht Dürer 'Melencolia I' Poster
Free shipping on orders over $65
Description
Albrecht Dürer engraved Melencolia I in Nuremberg in 1514, at the height of the German Renaissance. It is one of his three celebrated master engravings and draws on the Renaissance belief that melancholy was the burden of genius. Scholars have argued over its symbols for five hundred years, from the magic square (which hides the year 1514) to the hourglass and the bat-winged banner that gives the print its name.
