Description
Andries Stock was a Dutch engraver working in the early 1600s, when fear of witchcraft was still feeding trials across Europe. He made this engraving around 1610. The sabbath, the supposed midnight gathering of witches, was a staple of demonologists' handbooks and a favorite subject for collectors of prints who wanted to be frightened at a safe distance.
