Description
Jacques-Louis David painted this double portrait in 1788, when he was the leading painter of French Neoclassicism. It shows the chemist Antoine Laurent Lavoisier (1743–1794) and his wife and collaborator Marie Anne Pierrette Paulze (1758–1836), who illustrated his experiments and translated scientific texts for him. Lavoisier was guillotined during the Terror, and the Metropolitan Museum purchased the portrait in 1977.
Custom printed and made to order. Please note: due to variations in the production process, blankets may arrive up to 3 inches shorter than the listed size.
