Description

John William Waterhouse's Circe Invidiosa (1892) is in the Art Gallery of South Australia in Adelaide. It illustrates a story from Ovid's Metamorphoses, in which the sorceress Circe, jealous of the nymph Scylla, poisons the cove where Scylla bathes and turns her into a monster. Waterhouse painted it a year after Circe Offering the Cup to Ulysses. Printed twice around the mug.
