Description
Island of the Dead is a painting by Arnold Böcklin (1827–1901), the Swiss Symbolist painter. Böcklin painted five versions of the subject between 1880 and 1886, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art owns the second, dated 1880. A white-shrouded figure stands in a small boat approaching a rocky island of cypresses and tomb chambers, and the image became one of the most widely reproduced paintings of the late nineteenth century. This unisex hoodie carries the print on the front.
