Rembrandt 'Faust' Mug
Free shipping on orders over $65
Description
Rembrandt etched this small, shadowy scene in the Netherlands around 1652, at the height of the Dutch Golden Age. The traditional title Faust was attached later, and scholars still debate whether it shows the legendary doctor, an alchemist or simply a scholar startled by a vision. The glowing disc in the window carries a ring of mystical lettering, including the letters INRI, that has puzzled readers ever since.
