Description
Rembrandt painted this self-portrait in 1660, in his mid-fifties, a few years after the bankruptcy that forced the sale of his house and collection in Amsterdam. He painted nearly a hundred self-portraits over his career, and the late ones are among the most searching in Western art. This painting is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
