Description
The Unicorn Rests in a Garden is the last panel of the Unicorn Tapestries, woven in the Southern Netherlands around 1495-1505 in wool, silk and metallic threads. The series follows a hunt for the unicorn and ends with the animal alive and content among flowers, a scene read as an emblem of marriage or of resurrection. After centuries in French châteaux, the set was bought by John D. Rockefeller Jr. and given to the Metropolitan Museum in 1937.
